The Leicester Diocesan Board of Education exists to support and enable Church of England schools across the region, helping them to provide an education that is both academically excellent and deeply rooted in Christian faith. Our work with primary schools, academies, and other educational settings focuses on nurturing the whole child—spiritually, morally, socially, and culturally. We believe that every child deserves to flourish in a safe, inclusive environment where they can grow in wisdom and understanding. Through our resources, guidance, and training, we equip school leaders, teachers, governors, and clergy to create school communities where hope, respect, and compassion are lived out daily.
Our vision is one of transforming lives through effective, distinctive Christian education. We work alongside schools to develop their Christian character, ensuring that collective worship, religious education, and spiritual development remain at the heart of school life. The board provides regular updates, practical resources, and professional development opportunities for staff at all levels. From early years through to key stage transitions, we support schools in raising achievement while maintaining a clear Christian ethos. Our team is passionate about helping schools to be places where pupils can ask big questions, explore faith, and develop resilience for the future.
Supporting school governance is a key part of our mission. We help to recruit, train, and develop governors who understand both their statutory responsibilities and the distinctive nature of Church school leadership. Our governor training covers essential areas such as safeguarding, finance, school improvement, and the role of the foundation governor. We also provide guidance on admissions, collective worship policies, and the statutory inspection of Anglican and Methodist schools. By building strong, confident governing boards, we help ensure that each school is well-led and able to provide the best possible outcomes for its pupils and the wider community.
We recognise that effective education is built on strong partnerships between schools, families, parishes, and the wider community. The DBE works closely with diocesan officers, local authorities, and multi-academy trusts to ensure that schools receive joined-up support. Our events and network gatherings bring together headteachers, RE leaders, and clergy for shared learning and encouragement. We also offer support for schools navigating change, whether that involves joining a trust, developing a new vision, or responding to inspection outcomes. At the heart of all we do is a commitment to serving children, families, and school communities with integrity, care, and hope.
